Goal: to be the first player with two diamond cards.
Theme
In this turn-based card game you are a diamond miner. Trade in the
iron ore found in your mine for more mining tools, and continue
upgrading tools until you mine a diamond. But be careful not to let
other players steal your tools! With planning and some plundering of
your own, you can be the first in the race to mine the diamonds!
Contents
49 iron ore cards
19 shovel cards
9 mine cart cards
6 anvil cards
8 shield cards
8 sword cards
9 diamond cards
The fronts of iron ore cards can vary from card to card. The other
card types do not vary.
Set Up
Place all cards face down into piles, with one pile for each
type of card.
Form the deck by shuffling the iron ore pile and placing it
face down in the middle of the playing area. Leave room for an
iron ore discard pile beside it.
Form the bank with separate piles of the remaining cards. Place
it at the side of the playing area.
Choose the shortest player to go first.
Gameplay
Players take turns and you do the following on your turn:
Take new cards and place each one face up in front of you
(see Taking New Cards below).
Move the cards in front of you under other cards, forming
or adding to stacks, and possibly transforming stacks of
cards into new cards (see Moving Cards into Stacks below).
You can do this as many times as you like on your turn.
Taking New Cards
On your turn you take two iron ore cards from the top of the
iron ore deck. In addition, for each of your stacks of cards
that produce cards (see below) you take the cards indicated.
Take iron ore cards from the top of the iron ore deck and other
cards from the bank.
Place each of your new cards face up in front of you so that
each player can see it.
When the iron ore deck is empty, shuffle the iron ore discard
pile and form a new deck. Do not replenish the iron ore deck
until it is exhausted.
If the bank runs out of a type of card simply skip taking that
card.
Moving Cards into Stacks
You may move any of your cards underneath any other card,
including under cards belonging to other players. (Except for
another player’s anvil cards and except for stacks protected by
shield cards — see below.)
You cannot move another player’s cards under other cards; you
can only move your own cards under theirs (or yours).
When moving a card under a stack of cards, leave the top
portion of the card visible so everyone can see which cards are
in the stack.
Once a card is under another card, it cannot be moved. This
applies to all cards, including shield and sword cards. You
cannot move a card in the stack to the front of the stack. The
card at the front cannot change.
Once a card is under another card, its rules are hidden and do
not apply. Only the rules of the top card in the stack apply.
You may move the top card of a stack, but you immediately
discard the all cards under it, except for shields or swords,
when you do so.
You may move a card into any stack, even if it does not follow
the rule to transform or produce cards. You would do so to
prevent another player from using that card.
Example 1: Moving an iron ore card under a stack of two shovel
cards, resulting in a stack of three cards.
Example 2: Moving one stack under another stack, moving only the
top card and discarding the rest.
Stack Rules
The front of each card lists the possible rules for when that
card is the top of a stack. The required cards for a rule
include the top card.
There are two types of rules: transformations and productions.
Productions contain a plus sign inside a circle;
transformations do not.
Other than the top card, the order of the cards in the stack
does not matter.
Extra cards in the stack that are not needed to complete a rule
are ignored.
Transforming Cards
When you place a card under a stack and complete a
transformation rule, discard the stack and take new card(s)
according to the rule.
If you place a card under another player’s stack and complete a
transformation, the new card belongs to you!
Any extra cards that are not needed for the transformation are
discarded along with the rest of the stack.
If a stack completes a transformation, you must transform it
into the new card(s).
When discarding cards, place iron ore cards face up in the iron
ore discard pile. Return all other cards to the bank.
Example 3: Moving this ore under the other produces a stack of two
ores which transforms into a shovel.
Example 4: Moving an anvil card under this stack transforms the
resulting stack into a diamond.
Producing Cards
Cards are only produced at the beginning of your turn. At the
beginning of each turn take any cards produced plus two iron
ore cards.
Completing a production rule on a player’s stack has no effect
until the beginning of that player’s next turn (and only if the
stack remains).
Example 5: This player would take 4 iron ore cards and 1 shovel
card in addition to the 2 iron ore cards they would normally take.
Card Reference
Anvil Cards
You cannot place a card under another player’s anvil cards. You
can only place cards under anvil cards that belong to you.
The anvil card’s transformation rule lets you choose one of two
possible options. It effectively lets you turn an iron ore
into either a shield or a sword.
Sword and Shield Cards
If you place a shield card under a stack then it prevents other
players from placing their cards under that stack (except for
sword cards).
If you place a sword card under a stack containing a shield
card, both the shield and sword cards are removed from the
stack and discarded.
You may place more than one shield card under a stack. A sword
card removes only one shield card from a stack.
You may place a sword card under another player’s stack that
does not contain a shield card. If a player later adds a shield
card under the stack then both the sword and shield cards are
removed and discarded.
Diamond Cards
Once a player obtains a diamond card they cannot lose it.
The game ends when a player receives their second diamond card.
